This weekly blog post is all about highlighting some of the terrific writing posted on Vocal Media over the past week. If you’re already subscribed, thank you, and if not, please consider doing so! Without further ado, here is one of last week’s poems, a couple of short stories, and a top story as voted by the Vocal team:
The Poem: The Ghost of Your Gun by Poppy
This poem is raw with its hard-hitting emotional middle finger. You know that one person who is always trying to manipulate everyone into getting what they want by any means and then playing the victim when they get called out for it? Yeah, this poem is for them. I can’t get enough of Poppy’s poetry in any case, but this one is so relatable she may as well have been writing about . . . well, I won’t name anyone, but you get the point. Don’t miss out on this fantastic poem.
A Microfiction: 267 The Flop by Gerard DiLeo
Gerard and a couple of other writers on Vocal Media are writing a story every day in 2024. This story was number 267, and boy, is it good! Gerard manages to give us a suspenseful story about a man down on his luck attempting to bluff his way out of a bad hand in just a few words - 366, to be exact. I’m sure you’ll agree he captures this poor man’s desperation quite well. I can almost see him sweating! Be sure to give this one a read and show some support for this man’s incredible goal.
A Nonfiction: Appalachia is Under Water by Ashley Lima
As someone who lives in North Carolina, this one hits close to home. In this informative post, Ashley talks about the disaster that has hit this already problematic region in the NC Mountains. This beautiful area has been devastated by the rains from Hurricane Helene and needs more than just our prayers. Please read this and consider making a donation to the American Red Cross.
Vocal Top Story: Two Truths And A Lie by Hannah Moore
Vocal Media ran an unreliable narrator challenge, to which Hannah rose to meet with her usual expertise. The unreliable narrator in this hilarious and wonderful story is a very imaginative child. You’ve got to see the story this kid comes up with to explain why his homework is missing. You’ll find yourself grinning from ear to ear while being quite impressed with his ingenuity. This is my kind of kid!
Thank you for reading. Do read up on these wonderful posts and consider subscribing to them on Vocal.
Didn't even know this existed. Thanks for this, Kenny.
