Good morning, and happy Monday! If it’s your first time here, welcome! This weekly blog post highlights a few of the terrific poems and stories posted on Vocal Media over the past week. If you’re already subscribed, thank you very much, and if not, please consider doing so! Without further ado, here are some that stood out to me during the week of October 20 - 26.
A poem: Falling by Donna Fox (HKB)
This week’s poem is a lovely Haiku written by Donna Fox. I’m a huge fan of Haiku, especially the more traditional ones with nature themes, and Donna’s is no exception. I loved the image of fall she gives with just twelve words. She brings back fond memories of my childhood spent playing in autumn leaves and reminds me why fall is still my favorite season.
A Horror Micro: Locked In by Cathy Holmes
If you read last week’s edition, you’ll remember I featured a horror micro inspired by Vocal Media’s ‘Spooky Micro’ competition. Well, I’ve got another one for you, and it’s damn good. In this frightful tale, Cathy explores the question: What would happen if you were drugged with something so potent that your friends and family believed you were dead? I got real chills reading this one. Perfect for the upcoming Holiday!
A Short Story: The Literary Agent by Sarah Parker
In keeping with the season, ‘The Literary Agent’ is a fantastic murder story that’s all about following your dreams. Ok, that’s a major oversimplification, but read it, and you’ll see what I mean! I loved Sarah’s writing style here as she paints a portrait of a hard-working woman living in her sunset years who loves her job but has always dreamed of publishing a best-selling novel. This story is well worth the read!
A Vocal Media Top Story: UMSDERWPFLEPI Crowns Climate Chaos Queen by Gael MacLean
Looking for a good laugh? Then you need to read this absolutely hilarious satire written by Gael MacLean. This piece is based on what Georgia’s US House Representative and conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene said about a “suspiciously well-preserved patent from 1816.” You won’t believe your eyes, and you might hate me for recommending this piece when your stomach hurts from all the laughter it causes. Seriously, though, you need to read it, and for more than just the giggles.
